The Museum Broken Arrow to Host Jack Connery Book Signing
For Immediate Release: Jan. 10, 2018
The Museum Broken Arrow will host Jack Connery for the signing of his book, “After A Meal Like This, You Don’t Need Dessert.” Visitors can join Connery Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Museum Broken Arrow, 400 S. Main St. in Broken Arrow.
The book serves as a commemoration of his life and the adventures, some amusing, some sad, that take readers back to the times of the Great Depression and World War II. The setting is on a small farm in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where a young boy with three older brothers and a younger sister must grow into adulthood.
“After losing my uncle, I realized there was no one who could tell me stories of my parents’ early life,” said Connery. “I decided I didn’t want this to happen to my children and began writing my life story.”
Connery is a Broken Arrow native and the fourth son of Michael and Annabelle Connery. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a journalism degree and then applied and completed Navy officer candidate school and was commissioned Ensign. After 21 years in the Navy, serving on five ships with two tours in Vietnam, Connery retired and returned to the Tulsa area. He then enjoyed a career in technical pipeline writing and started his own technical writing business.
“We are excited to host Connery’s book signing and are proud to welcome him home,” said Lori Lewis, executive director of The Museum Broken Arrow. “His story gives us insight to the Great Depression and the war that is humbling, yet fascinating.”
The Museum Broken Arrow also offers a series of permanent collections in the main gallery telling the history of Broken Arrow and its residents.
Museum admission is $5 per adult or $8 for two adults. Members and children under the age of 18 are admitted for free. For more information on this exhibit or to plan your visit, go to BrokenArrowMuseum.org.
