The Museum Broken Arrow Earns Oklahoma Museums Association Award
For Immediate Release: Aug. 18, 2015
The Museum Broken Arrow is being honored with an award from the Oklahoma Museums Association during its annual conference on Sept. 23-25 in Woodward, Okla. The awards program honors the excellence and quality of projects accomplished by institutional members throughout the state.
The Museum Broken Arrow earned the award for Outreach or Education in the budget category of $0 to $5,000 for the Broken Arrow Historic Townie Ride event. This family-friendly event takes place every third Saturday during June, July, August and September. The bike ride travels about six miles through Broken Arrow’s historic downtown, stopping at historical markers to read and learn the significance of each site.
“It’s an honor to receive this award from the Oklahoma Museums Association for our Historic Townie Ride,” said Lori Lewis, executive director of The Museum Broken Arrow. “This unique event is a local favorite especially among families. After rides we often hear people say they didn’t realize how much there was to see and learn about Broken Arrow.”
The Oklahoma Museums Association awards recognize achievements from the past 18 months in the categories of conservation, exhibits, promotional pieces, publications, outreach or education programs and technology media. The competition is further divided into project budget categories.
The Museum Broken Arrow is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in historic downtown Broken Arrow near the site of the original Katy Train Depot. The Museum was created by the Broken Arrow Historical Society to preserve the local history of the city and its residents and to serve as an educational opportunity for future generations. In addition to showcasing local history, The Museum also offers events, educational opportunities and facility rental. The Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information call (918) 258-2616 or visit BrokenArrowMuseum.org.
