The Museum Broken Arrow Offers New Historical Experiences this Summer
For Immediate Release: June 9, 2016
The Museum Broken Arrow opens a new special exhibit, “Quilts: Our History, Our Stories,” on June 11 and will host its monthly Historic Townie Ride on June 16 at 7 p.m.
The quilting exhibition will showcase more than 25 handmade quilts in varying ages and sizes as well as a quilt frame with a piece in-progress. Museum visitors will also enjoy learning the history behind each quilt and developing a deeper understanding of the tradition, its patterns and the labor-intensive creative process. The exhibition will be open through July 23.
The next Historic Townie Ride is June 16 starting at 7 p.m. The free bicycle tour is approximately six miles in length with frequent stops and is open to all ages and cycling levels. Attendees will meet in the parking lot behind the Museum and then journey through historic downtown Broken Arrow, learning about historic homes, buildings, churches and events. Each ride takes about one hour to complete.
“We love developing new historical experiences for Museum visitors to enjoy,” said Lori Lewis, executive director of the Museum Broken Arrow. “We are thrilled to present our new exhibition on the quilting art-form as well as host this month’s Historic Townie Ride, an award-winning event designed for children and families of all ages to explore and learn more about Broken Arrow and its captivating history.”
The Museum Broken Arrow also offers a series of permanent collections in the main gallery telling the history of Broken Arrow and its residents.
