The Museum Broken Arrow Selected to Host Smithsonian Institution Exhibit
For Immediate Release: Sept. 14, 2015
The Museum Broken Arrow has been chosen as a host venue for the 2017 tour of the Smithsonian Institution’s exhibit, "The Way We Worked." The exhibit will be at the Museum May 19-July 7, 2017.
"The Way We Worked" exhibit at The Museum Broken Arrow has been made possible by the Oklahoma Humanities Council. The exhibit showcases the changes in the U.S. workforce and work environments over the past 150 years through photographs and video footage from the National Archives. The exhibit celebrates workers from offices, factories, on the road and at home for being real American heroes through contributions to industry and American culture.
“I could not be more excited to welcome an exhibit that originated with one of the preeminent museums in the world,” said Lori Lewis, executive director of The Museum Broken Arrow. “By teaming with the Smithsonian Institution and the Oklahoma Humanities Council, we will be able to bring a world class exhibit to Broken Arrow and the surrounding communities.”
Created by the National Archives, "The Way We Worked" exhibit is part of the Museum on Main Street collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils nationwide. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress. The Museum on Main Street program was developed for small town audiences and as a means to draw attention to those communities through local museums and historical societies.
The Museum Broken Arrow is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in historic downtown Broken Arrow near the site of the original Katy Train Depot. The Museum was created by the Broken Arrow Historical Society to preserve the local history of the city and its residents and to serve as an educational opportunity for future generations. In addition to showcasing local history, the museum also offers events, educational opportunities and facility rental. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information call (918) 258-2616 or visit BrokenArrowMuseum.org.
