The Museum Broken Arrow to Host New Reading Program
For Immediate Release: Aug. 22, 2016
The Museum Broken Arrow will host a new reading program sponsored by Oklahoma Humanities on Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at The Museum Broken Arrow, 400 S. Main St. in Broken Arrow. Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma will be held on the first Thursday of each month, September through December. Each session will showcase a different book.
This year’s Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma series will be themed “The Oklahoma Experience, The Thirties” and will approach the historical problems associated with the time period. A scholar from the region will come to the Museum to lead the discussion of each novel. In addition, books will be provided for all registered participants but must be returned each month.
“We are excited to offer this new, free reading program thanks to Oklahoma Humanities,” said Lori Lewis, executive director of The Museum Broken Arrow. “When people immerse themselves in literature and open a dialogue with peers, it provides an opportunity to consider ourselves in the context of generations before and gain new perspectives on history and culture in a way that can’t be replicated by simply viewing an exhibit.”
Selected books include “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck, “Roughneck” by Jim Thompson, “Will Rogers: His Wife’s Story” by Betty Rogers and “The Silver DeSoto” by Patty Lou Floyd.
Registration for Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma is required and space is limited. Individuals interested in attending the series can register by phone at (918) 258-2616 or in-person at The Museum Broken Arrow.
