The The Museum Broken Arrow’s Executive Director Selected as Judge for Congressional Art Competition
For Immediate Release: April 19, 2016
The Museum Broken Arrow’s executive director, Lori Lewis, has been selected as a judge for the prestigious Congressional Art Competition by Congressman Jim Bridenstine.
The Congressional Institute has sponsored an annual visual art competition since 1982 to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the United States. High school students across the nation were invited to participate and showcase their artistic ability.
The theme for this year’s Congressional Art Competition is ‘Symbolic Oklahoma.’ Art competition entries must be two-dimensional, weighing no more than 15 pounds and are required to be original in concept, design and execution.
A panel of judges will convene on April 20 to select a winner for the district. The district reception will be held on April 25 at The Hive in Jenks, Oklahoma.
“I am honored to have been selected as a member of the judging panel for the Congressional Art Competition,” said Lori Lewis, executive director of The Museum Broken Arrow. “Encouraging art and creativity in our youth is imperative to the future of our education and culture. I am excited to see the artistic abilities presented at the competition and know it will be a difficult decision for the entire panel.”
One exceptional artist will be selected during this year’s competition to represent the First Congressional District of Oklahoma for one year. The chosen piece will also be displayed in Washington, D.C. A reception for all of the district winners will be held in Washington, D.C. this summer.
The Museum Broken Arrow is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in historic downtown Broken Arrow near the site of the original Katy Train Depot.
